The Department of Anaesthesiology at PMRIMS is staffed by a dedicated team of faculty, residents, and support staff who work collaboratively to deliver safe and effective perioperative services around the clock. The department’s primary mission is to provide competent, evidence-based, compassionate, and safe anaesthesia care, while actively cultivating an environment that fosters innovative research in both basic science and clinical practice.
Clinical Services
The department offers a comprehensive range of clinical services including:
- Anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgical procedures
- Procedural sedation and labor analgesia
- Critical care services including emergency intubations in adult and paediatric patients
- Acute and chronic pain management
- Palliative care
Anaesthesia services extend beyond the operating theatre to support procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab, interventional neuroradiology suite, CT and ultrasound-guided procedures, MRI room (particularly for children), gastro-endoscopic and bronchoscopic procedures, Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT), lumbar punctures, difficult intravenous access, and ESWL.
Specialized Clinics
The department operates a Pre-Anaesthesia Check (PAC) Clinic and dedicated Pain Clinics addressing both post-operative and chronic pain needs. Faculty also play an integral role in managing critical care cases across the ICU and Emergency Departments.
Education, Training & Research

- Faculty certified in BLS, ACLS, and other advanced life support modalities
- Active participation in and hosting of training programs, conferences, and workshops
- All faculty and residents encouraged to engage in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Faculty actively involved in research and training of paramedical staff
- A state-of-the-art Simulation Centre providing training in life support and critical incident management

Round-the-Clock Services
The department maintains 24/7 services across operating theatres, Intensive Care Units, the Casualty Department, and Radiology, with faculty always on duty to ensure comprehensive emergency care at all times. The department is fully equipped for pre- and post-anaesthetic care and is set to expand its services to include enhanced pain management programs and resuscitation training initiatives.
