The Biochemistry Department holds a central position in training undergraduate medical students and
regularly conducts Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions for faculty. It actively promotes research
initiatives among faculty and students, encouraging the publication of scientific findings. The department’s
diagnostic laboratory, overseen by a team of seasoned professionals, serves over 1,000 outpatients and
inpatients on a daily basis.
This NABL-accredited diagnostic laboratory caters to all hospital patients and functions as a referral hub
for private hospitals and practitioners in the surrounding region. The laboratory is steadfast in its
commitment to maintaining the highest performance benchmarks, utilizing the latest technology and
equipment to deliver swift and dependable results with minimal turnaround time. All routine and
specialized biochemical parameters are analyzed using high-throughput analyzers.
The department is seamlessly integrated with the hospital via a Laboratory Information System (LIS),
enabling faster and more precise reporting. Samples are bar-coded, and equipment automatically
executes the required analyses, with results directly transmitted online to the physician’s workstation after
verification, thereby eliminating transcription errors.
Core Focus Areas of the Department
- Biochemistry instruction emphasizes the architecture and functionality of cellular components and
biomolecules, incorporating clinical applications to help students comprehend biochemical
interactions in both health and disease states. - The department cultivates a collaborative learning atmosphere, promoting small group discussions
and hands-on practical sessions that enable students to grasp complex concepts and prepare for
research undertakings. - The department makes a substantial contribution to clinical diagnostics through state-of-the-art
facilities, advanced instrumentation, and skilled laboratory personnel, providing round-the-clock
services to support patient care quality. - A spacious biochemistry laboratory at the college is exclusively dedicated to undergraduate
academic requirements. A well-equipped library also supports the academic and research needs of
undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as faculty.
